Fado and Tigin Irish Pub Fantasy League 08/09

The Fado and Tigin Irish Pub Fantasy League 08/09 is now over.

After one of the most enthralling Premier League seasons in recent memory we now face a long, dark summer without the beautiful game to keep us entertained. So in order to get us through the empty, barren weekends without football, let's have a look back at which players were the best Fantasy League performers in 2008/09.

Manchester United won a third straight Premier League title thanks to a steadfast defence with Nemanja Vidic providing an impenetrable barrier to opposition attackers. In goal Edwin van der Sar set a new record for consecutive clean sheets, although Liverpool stopper Pepe Reina proved just as valuable to Liverpool's cause.

Liverpool pushed Manchester United all the way with Steven Gerrard at his inspiration best, although Chelsea weren't far behind as Nicolas Anelka topped the goal scoring charts. Fulham grabbed the final Europa League spot thanks to defensive duo Brede Hangeland and Aaron Hughes, but Newcastle, Middlesbrough and West Brom were relegated.

Cristiano Ronaldo and Frank Lampard proved to be reliable points scorers once again, while fellow midfielders Stephen Ireland and Matthew Taylor impressed. Dirk Kuyt was a surprise name at the top of the points tables, joining the more illustrious names of Robin van Persie, Wayne Rooney and Robinho at the summit of the striker standings.

Thanks to everyone for taking part and congratulations to all our winners. We hope you have enjoyed the game.
